Do you already have your Mexico City digital driver’s license? It’s just as valid as the physical version, and you can get it online.
The first thing you need to know is that you can complete this process online as long as you have a recent Mexico City driver’s license on file and your biometric data is up to date (if it isn’t, you’ll need to go in person to update it).
The cost is $1,500. Once you have your permanent digital Mexico City driver’s license, you can print the physical version until December 2026. Note: Payment must be made only once; printing your license does not require an additional fee.
How do I get a digital CDMX driver’s license?
The first thing you need to do is go to the official permanent license website and log in with your Llave CDMX credentials (if you don’t have an account, you can create one online). Next, select the “Start” and “New Application” options.
Regarding payment, you can choose to pay using a payment reference number or online. You’ll then need to fill out the required fields and upload your official ID. You must also have your proof of no outstanding balances on hand.
Once payment is received, you’ll be sent a receipt via email. You can even carry this document in the Mexico City app called App CDMX (just enter the license number and type in the “Documents” section).
The permanent driver’s license has temporarily returned to Mexico City. It can be applied for until December 31, 2026; city authorities have reported that there will be no extension to obtain this document.
