November has arrived, and with it, one of the most common questions among pensioners: Will everyone receive a year-end bonus in 2026? The answer is no. Although the IMSS, ISSSTE, and Bienestar provide financial assistance to older adults, the rules differ.
The main difference is that the Christmas bonus is a benefit that depends on the pension system, while the Bienestar Pension is financial assistance from the Mexican government that does not include this additional payment.
Who will receive the year-end bonus from the IMSS and ISSSTE in 2026?
In the case of the IMSS, those receiving an old-age or senior disability pension under the Social Security Law of 1973 are entitled to the Christmas bonus.
The amount is equivalent to one month’s basic pension, excluding family allowances and other forms of assistance.
For example, if the monthly base pension is $8,000, the Christmas bonus will be $8,000. This payment is made in November.
In contrast, unemployment or old-age pensions under the 1997 Law do not include this Christmas bonus.
For ISSSTE, pensioners entitled to this benefit—such as those under the Tenth Transitory Provision—receive a year-end bonus equivalent to 40 days’ worth of pension.
The payment is divided into two parts: the first in November 2026 and the second in January 2027.
Will people receiving the Bienestar Pension get a year-end bonus?
No. The Bienestar Pension will not provide a year-end bonus in 2026, as it is a social program and not an employment-based pension.
Beneficiaries receive only the bimonthly payment to which they are entitled, without any bonuses or special deposits for Christmas or the end of the year.
However, receiving the Bienestar Pension does not prevent someone from collecting a pension from the IMSS or ISSSTE. Those entitled to the Christmas bonus under their pension plan may receive it regardless of the social assistance.
When will the 2026 Christmas bonus be paid?
These are the main differences between the three institutions:
💰 IMSS
- Is a year-end bonus provided? Yes, to pensioners receiving an old-age or senior-age pension under Law 73.
- How much do they receive? The equivalent of one month’s basic pension.
- When is it paid? In November 2026.
💰 ISSSTE
- Is a year-end bonus paid? Yes, to pensioners who are entitled to this benefit, such as those under the Tenth Transitory Provision.
- How much do they receive? The equivalent of 40 days’ worth of pension, depending on the applicable plan.
- When is it paid? In two installments: the first in November 2026 and the second in January 2027.
💰 Bienestar Pension
- When is it paid? According to the program’s official payment schedule.
- Is there a year-end bonus? No.
- How much do they receive? Only the corresponding bimonthly payment, with no additional Christmas bonus.
In summary, receiving a pension does not automatically entitle you to the year-end bonus. The key is to determine whether it is a contributory pension and what benefits it includes.
