Don’t just take others’ word for it—see for yourself how magic takes flight in the town of Etla. The excitement is already building for the 18th edition of the 2026 Chinese Paper Balloon Festival, where giant, colorful structures will fill the sky and dazzle us all.
This celebration will take place at the Matadamas Sports Complex in Soledad Etla, Oaxaca. The date to enjoy a sky full of color is Sunday, July 26, with activities scheduled from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. If you’re already in Oaxaca for the Guelaguetza 2026, this event could be part of your itinerary.
A day full of fun awaits you: it all kicks off at 7:00 a.m. with the balloon launch. Starting then and throughout the day, you can enjoy a delicious food fair, as well as music, amusement rides, recreational and cultural activities, and the continuous launch of balloons.
Later, at 11:00 a.m., the official opening ceremony of the event will take place. If you want to be part of the most impressive moment of the day, we suggest you be there in the evening, as at 8:00 p.m. there will be a massive balloon release that will last until 10:00 p.m.
