Mark your calendars! Next Wednesday, May 6 , an earthquake drill will be held in Mexico City and other states across the country, as reported by the National Civil Protection Commission via its official social media channels.
This is the First National Drill 2026, which aims to promote a culture of civil protection, as well as review and reinforce the emergency protocols applied in the event of an earthquake.
As part of this exercise, the seismic alert will sound in various states across the country, such as the State of Mexico, Puebla, and Mexico City, as detailed on the official website.
Everything about the May earthquake drill in Mexico City
This earthquake drill will take place next Wednesday, May 6, at exactly 11:00 a.m., at which time the seismic alert will be activated.
It is important to note that this is the first national drill to be held in 2026. However, as far as Mexico City and the State of Mexico are concerned, this will be the second earthquake drill held this year.
Let’s recall that Mexico City authorities reported that the city would hold three drills in 2026: February 18, May 6, and September 19.
Remember to follow Civil Protection guidelines and participate in this drill. Mexico is a highly seismic country and earthquakes cannot be predicted, so we must always be prepared.
Here is an interview we conducted at Cires, the institution in charge of the seismic alert system.
