The plaza in front of the Palacio de Bellas Artes will become a massive open-air stage with the arrival of ARCA, a free show that blends street theater, live music, and community participation. The event will be led by Idiotas Teatro and Pasatono Orquesta, who promise to transform the public space into a poetic and fully immersive experience.
The performance is part of the celebration of Alas y Raíces’ 30th anniversary and aims to bring theater to all kinds of audiences right in the heart of Mexico City. So if you’re looking for free things to do this weekend, this one definitely deserves a spot on your calendar.
Street theater, live music, and community at Bellas Artes
ARCA is Idiotas Teatro’s first street theater show and is inspired by the poetry of the cicada, an insect deeply connected to Oaxacan culture. Through movement, music, and audience interaction, the production celebrates collective work and community life.
The production will feature original music by Rubén Luengas performed live by Pasatono Orquesta. Additionally, the stage direction is by Cristian David and Fernando Reyes Reyes.
Diego Santana, Cristian David, Fernando Reyes Reyes, and Daniel Berthier will take the stage, inviting passersby to take over the public space and become an active part of the show. The goal is for the Bellas Artes esplanade to become a true theatrical celebration open to everyone.
