
February is coming and with it, in addition to Valentine’s Day, comes Art Week in CDMX.
For a whole week it will be all about activities that revolve around art in the city. And between exhibitions opening and unmissable art fairs such as Zona Maco, Salón Acme, Bada and more, enjoying art week could be out of our budget.
However, there are galleries participating in Art Week that are 100% free admission, in addition to different activities that you can enjoy at no cost. Here are the ones you can’t miss.
1. Top 10 artists you have to meet at #ArtWeek
If you’re looking to soak up the contemporary art scene and its trends, this is one of the exhibitions you won’t want to miss, because here an artist curator is invited to select his top 10 artists of the year.
The invited artist? Marco Aviña. This exhibition will undoubtedly make you reflect on art production in Mexico.

2. Base_pavilion
Here you can enjoy a performance and installation by Self at base_pavilion. What is it about? Self, in a state of deep meditation, will use a modified tattoo machine that vibrates to the beat of music incorporating Indian instruments and Sanskrit chants performed by live musicians. A performance that combines elements of meditation, sound and acupuncture.

3. Chapultepec Castle Annual Auction
And did you know that there will be an annual auction of the Chapultepec Castle? Here you will be able to see more than 150 works by artists related to the local community and bid on the one you like the most.
These contemporary art auctions are intended as a financial model for a local art community. The money raised from the sales goes to remunerate the work of the artists, to support the establishment of the artist’s solidarity bank and to continue the development process of the Castillo de Chapultepec, a non-profit institution.
The Castillo de Chapultepec is a cultural institution in development managed by the architectural firm APRDELESP. A superlocal site of artistic, economic, spatial, political and social research and experimentation. Here you will find an archive, a library, an art collection, a print shop, an information kiosk and souvenir store, a lobby, an event hall, and so on.

4. AMITY: Drops of Remembrance
One of the must-sees of Art Week in CDMX! A four-day immersive experience full of art, culture, performance, gastronomy and celebration awaits you.
The exhibition brings together the work of 15 international contemporary artists, who, through their pieces, explore such essential concepts as the fluidity of water, Zen philosophy and the ephemeral nature of existence.
This experience will have some activities with cost. However, there will be yoga, meditations, Japanese calligraphy, tea ceremonies, performance and even an ambient set, all activities are free with prior reservation!

5. LagoAlgo
As part of Art Week in CDMX, LagoAlgo’s spring season exhibition will open: Chapter VII: Shifting Grounds, a group exhibition focusing on cycles of displacement, both visible and invisible.
This exhibition places special emphasis on the human impact on the environment, migration, identity issues, economic structures, as well as the action/inaction that leads to their repetition.

6. Open Art
The colors of the renowned Swiss artist, Ugo Rondinone, who not long ago conquered the halls of the Tamayo Museum is back with Long Last Happy at Arte Abierto.
Although this space asks for a $40 pesos recovery fee to access, on Wednesdays you can visit it 100% free of charge.
