Mexico’ s participation in the Olympic Games has been extensive. Throughout history, 73 medals have been won. In which year have the most medals been won? Here we tell you.
The first time Mexico participated in the Olympic Games was in 1900, in Paris; however, on that occasion it did not send a delegation as such, but rather the Mexicans Manuel, Pablo and Eustaquio Escandón participated in a polo team.
In accordance with the official website of the Olympic Games it was in Paris in 1924 that a delegation was formally sent. That’s right: just 100 years ago in Paris.
what has been Mexico’s best participation in the Olympic Games?
Throughout these more than 100 years of participating in the Olympics, Mexico has won 73 medals so far .
The games in which Mexicans have won the most medals was Mexico 68, when they won nine medals:
- 3 gold medals: two in boxing and one in swimming
- 3 silver medals: athletics/walking, diving and fencing
- 3 bronze medals: two in boxing and one in swimming
It is worth mentioning that it was during these games that a Mexican woman won an Olympic medal for the first time. It was Pilar Roldán Tapia, who took silver in fencing. At the same games, Maritere Ramirez won bronze in swimming, becoming the first Mexican woman to win a medal in that discipline.
