Caldo tlalpeño is a long-standing tradition in Mexico City. In fact, it is said to have been created right here in Tlalpan. According to information from the Tlalpan municipal government, the soup was created because President Antonio López de Santa Anna asked for something to relieve the discomfort caused by drinking the night before.

Date of the 2026 Caldo Tlalpeño Festival in Mexico City
This year, the festival will last five days: June 24–28. It will take place on the last weekend of June, so you can bid farewell to the month by enjoying a delicious dish that’s perfect for the rainy season. Best of all, you’ll have the chance to try several different recipes for this soup.
You can visit this culinary festival from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Unlike last year, this time the event will be held at a single location: Plaza del Bolero, located on Moneda Street, Tlalpan Centro 1, in the Tlalpan borough.
