What is the Carnival of the Animals about?
On the eve of each centennial of the spring solstice, the flora and fauna of planet Earth enthusiastically prepare for a unique celebration, known as the Carnival of the Animals. Beings from different corners of the world, from the Amazon rainforest to the humid African savannah, gather for the occasion.
However, they are soon threatened by poachers who want to capture them, especially the majestic swans. Fortunately, the sovereign crocodile, the king macaw, snakes, monkeys, zebras, lions and other colorful creatures will not allow it.
Carnival of the Animals. Swan Song features choreography by Rafi Maldonado-Lopez and Geta Constantinescu, music by Camille Saint Saëns, costume design by Gabriela Burt and costume design by Can Cun.
What’s most interesting? Maldonado-López points out that a movement study was carried out for each animal represented in the work, so that dancers could move like creatures, according to the idiosyncrasies of their instincts, and transmit this on stage.
