Don’t let them put you in check! On the morning of Sunday, September 20, the 2026 Chess Festival will take place at the Monument to the Revolution. It will feature everything from tournaments to giant chess. Admission is free.
It’s time to show off all your chess skills. This weekend in Mexico City, there will be a festival dedicated to this board game (which is also considered a sport), where everyone will put their best strategies to the test.
What time is the Chess Festival at the Monument to the Revolution?
On Sunday, you’ll have to get up early, since this festival starts at 9:30 a.m. Throughout the day, there will be various activities such as tournaments, simultaneous games, and even cultural and musical performances.
In addition, attendees will be able to play a game of giant chess. There will even be live chess performances. Admission to the event is free; it doesn’t matter if you’re not an expert at the game—you’ll still have a blast. It’s worth mentioning that you’ll also see rounds of chess boxing.
This festival was first held in July 2025 at the Zócalo in Mexico City. In 2026, the event will celebrate its second edition, but this time it will take place at the Monument to the Revolution.
Have you written down the details yet? Remember that on Sundays there’s a bike ride, so several streets will be closed. Take the necessary precautions.
