If you’re planning to leave the country or update your official documents, finding out the cost of a Mexican passport and identifying the requirements for adults and minors is the first step in completing this process at passport offices or consular offices.
For adults applying for the first time, it is essential to schedule an appointment and prove Mexican nationality with documents such as a birth certificate (issued by the civil registry or a consular office), a certificate of Mexican nationality, a declaration of nationality by birth, a naturalization certificate, a citizen identity card, or a consular registration certificate.
In addition, you must present the original valid official identification, which can be the INE or consular registration certificate. For passport renewals for adults, you only need to submit the original passport to be renewed (if the passport was stolen or lost, you must file a report with the police and follow the process as if applying for the first time).
For minors applying for the first time, proof of nationality is required, along with an official identification document for the minor (such as a school ID or a letter from the pediatrician for children under 7) that matches the birth certificate, and official identification for the individuals exercising parental authority or guardianship, who must provide their authorization.
Form OP-7 is used for this permit, which is valid for 90 calendar days and is valid for issuing a single passport.
To renew a passport for a minor, the previous passport and identification must be presented, along with authorization from the parents or guardians.
But what is the cost of applying for a Mexican passport?
Regarding official fees (effective January 1, 2026), the amounts based on the selected validity period are as follows:
- 1-year validity: 920 MXN (This validity period is issued only to children under 3 years of age).
- Valid for 3 years: 1,795 MXN.
- Valid for 6 years: $2,440 MXN.
- 10-year validity: $4,280 MXN.
A 50% discount is available for individuals over 60 years of age, people with disabilities (with proper documentation), and agricultural workers (under an agreement with Canada).
With this discount, the fees are $460 (1 year), $900 (3 years), $1,220 (6 years), and $2,140 (10 years). It should be noted that the discount for the 10-year validity period does not apply to agricultural workers.
Remember that payments made within Mexico must be made in Mexican pesos at authorized banks (such as BBVA, Banorte, Citibanamex, HSBC, Banjercito, Santander, Scotiabank, among others), while payments made abroad are made directly at the consular office.
