We all know the Porrúa Bookstore in the Historic Center of Mexico City, just behind the Templo Mayor. It has been a small oasis of books and culture for decades. But did you know that they have a hidden corner ideal for art exhibitions?
Diego and Frida: a universe presents a little known and conventional perspective of Mexico’s two most famous artists with large format projections. We’ll tell you why you can’t miss it!
It shows the artistic and cultural legacy of Diego and Frida.
This exhibition shows not only the art of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, but also opens the conversation of the influence they had on each other; as well as how their private and political life was reflected in their letters and paintings.
An intense and complete experience in just one hour.
Ideal if you have little time to spend in the Historic Center, this immersive exhibition will give you an exhaustive tour of the art of Mexico’s most famous painters. The time will fly by!

Large-format projections with photographs and paintings
This space is designed to maximize the impact of each of the paintings. We love to see them in comparison with collages and accompanied by photographs that tell the story of their creative process. In addition, you hear a background narration with some fragments of his writings and thoughts.
Cutting-edge technology to feel art like never before.
In this experience you will be able to enter the minds of Diego and Frida through a production full of technology and curated by art experts. The theatrical setting, multimedia production and even virtual reality create an aesthetically pleasing and didactic space.
See the paintings of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera move around.
You may be familiar with the paintings of these two Mexican artists, but there’s nothing like seeing them animate throughout the space. It’s a new way to bring them to life and generate curiosity about every element of their work.
One of our favorite moments was watching the fast-motion creation process, from sketches to completion, of Rivera’s “Industria Automotriz”. This mural is located in Detroit, so it is appreciated that they gave it a special place within the experience for people to get to know it better.
Moments to take beautiful pictures

Our favorite was definitely being able to pose with the Catrina and Diego in Rivera’s iconic mural: “Dream of a Sunday Afternoon in the Alameda Central”. But there’s also a classic Casa Azul bench for you to pose in style.
See a model of a lost Frida Kahlo painting.
“The Wounded Table” is one of Frida’s few large-format paintings, yet it was mysteriously lost! To better understand all its elements, they created a diorama to see it as if it were in 3D.
A moment of inspiration and creativity
When you’ve finished watching the projections and have gotten to know Diego and Frida better, it will be your moment to create your own interpretation of their works. Whether you want to paint a mural or color one of Frida’s works, you can’t skip this activity.
