Artists such as Juan Gabriel, Rocío Dúrcal and José José José stepped on the stage of this place! El Patio was a nightclub in the CDMX that is remembered for its musical presentations, ambiance and also for the celebrities that used to visit it. The club, although it no longer exists, was honored in the new series Mentiras.
It was located at Atenas Street number 9, in Colonia Juárez. It opened in 1938 and received celebrities of the Golden Age, although its greatest popularity was during the 80s. The place, elegant and glamorous, welcomed attendees dressed in strict etiquette.
The first Ariel Awards were held at El Patio.
The place was much more than a nightclub. The space used to be rented for private events and even film shoots. For example, the legendary movie starring Tin Tan: El rey del barrio.
In 1946 the first Ariel Awards ceremony was held. And yes, El Patio was the venue for an exquisite ceremony, directed by actor Andrés Soler. Alfonso Sánchez Tello’s La Barranca was awarded as the best film of the year.
Dolores del Río won the award for best actress for her participation in Las Abandonadas, while Domingo Soler won in the category of best actor for his participation in La Barranca.
Guest artists included Pedro Armendáriz, María Félix, Antonio Badú, Emilio “el Indio” Fernández and Julio Bracho.

New forums, such as the Auditorio Nacional, were inaugurated in the city and El Patio began to lose popularity. However, the presentations of great singers and artists continued.
The final closing of this legendary venue was in 1994. There are many political and social theories about the causes of its decline. Among them is the rise of discotheques.
After the closure, the building was abandoned for twenty years! Decades later, it was planned that the property would be converted into a shopping mall; however, this did not happen.
In June 2024, the building’s iconic canopy fell, leaving people trapped and injured, and vehicles damaged. Its end was just as shocking as its nights of parties and exclusive events.
New series Mentiras returns to El Patio on screen
Mentiras, the series starring Belinda, Regina Blandón, Diana Bovio, Mariana Treviño and Luis Gerardo Méndez, revived the hottest nights of El Patio.
Without giving you any spoilers: this place was recreated and is an important part of the story. The scenery is a time machine and, in more than one chapter, the club is the point where crucial moments take place.
And to give it more forcefulness: Amanda Miguel herself has a special participation in the representation of that mythical scenario.
