1. El Rollo owes its name to a tower built more than 480 years ago

Before the slides and pools we know today, the park’s official website states that in 1542, Hernán Cortés ordered the construction of a watchtower on the banks of the Yautepec River, where the water park stands today.
The structure was over 40 meters tall, made of stone, and cylindrical in shape, which is why the locals called it “El Rollo.”
Today, that old tower still stands at the water park’s main entrance and is recognized as a National Cultural Heritage Site, under the protection of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH).
2. One of the oldest water parks in Mexico and Latin America

El Rollo first opened as a water park in 1955, so perhaps you, your parents, and even your grandparents have memorable stories about this water park.
Seventy years later, the park is still operating and adding new attractions with cutting-edge technology. And if it’s been a while since you’ve been there, maybe now is the time to take the plunge and see how much it’s changed. You can buy tickets online.
3. You can bring your dog

El Rollo Water Park is the perfect choice if you’re looking for a getaway near Mexico City with your family—including your most special family member: your pet.
Although there are specific rules for doing so (which we suggest you check directly on the website), small and medium-sized dogs are allowed in the park. You’ll just need to sign a terms-and-conditions agreement and make sure to keep your dog out of certain areas, such as the slides.
4. It features the most thrilling slide for extreme sports enthusiasts

For those seeking thrills, El Rollo has fantastic free-fall slides from heights of over 25 meters.
But one of the must-see attractions is The Abyss, which is enormous, state-of-the-art, and features sharp turns leading to high-speed drops.

El Rollo is one of the water parks near Mexico City that ’s open every day of the year from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. You can even visit on holidays! Tickets are available online.
In addition to being the perfect spot for a quick getaway from the city, it’s also a great option for a short vacation, as it offers lodging and areas where you can fully unwind, such as its green spaces, lazy rivers, and wave pool.
