Urban art and the colors found on the streets of Mexico City will be honored in a vibrant and very emotional exhibition. The exhibition is called Muchos Barrios and will be welcomed with cumbia and dancing.
Around 20 artists participated in this collective exhibition, drawing inspiration from Mexico City and its identity to create pieces imbued with creativity, history, and diversity.
The grand opening will be on Saturday, February 14. What better way to welcome this exhibition than with dancing and lots of cumbia. The event will feature live music by Kungbia and Sonido Xibalbá, two emerging groups that will get your body moving. The big dance will take place on the terrace of El Barco.
But if you’re interested in learning more about the culture of sonidero dances, don’t miss the discussion “El barrio suena” (The neighborhood sounds) led by Musas Sonideras and Tepito Chido. Activities will begin at 3:00 p.m. Remember that admission is free.
It should be noted that this exhibition is part of the Barrio Street Art Festival. This is an urban art event that will be held at different locations throughout the city, featuring bazaars, workshops, murals, and other activities.
In case you hadn’t noticed, the Muchos Barrios exhibition opens on Valentine’s Day, so it’s a great option to dance to the rhythm of cumbia with your partner or friends. Make a plan and visit the Barco Utopía!
The dancing doesn’t stop in Mexico City!

Mexico City is turning into one big dance floor! In addition to this event, there will be other dances that will bring out your wild side. First, during Art Week, with six hours of free sonidero dancing, and in March, with the Gran Baile de Sonideros y Sonideras (Great Dance of Sonideros and Sonideras) in the capital’s Zócalo.
Tell your dancing partner, because the music and rhythm will go from being only at weddings to turning our city into a huge dance floor.
