The National Museum of Anthropology (Museo Nacional de Antropología) is celebrating the opening of a new exhibition: “Nahuales Sagrados“. This is a Suite of pieces by the artist Filogonio Naxín, who used natural dyes to capture nahuales in textiles. The exhibition will be in this venue for a short period of time, so don’t waste any time in visiting it.
This exhibition is made up of 22 pieces with some nahual painted on them. It should be noted that this figure represents the relationship between life and death: the contact with the ancestors. The images were captured on cloth and amate paper, but the real challenge was to do it with natural dyes. 🎨
The artist used resources such as soot, indigofera and grana cochineal to achieve black, blue and red pigments. It should be noted that this painting technique was used by native cultures, and bringing it to the present day is a way of recovering ancestral knowledge.
Filogonio Naxin also announced that relearning to use natural pigments will open artistic possibilities to places where there are no resources. In this way, art will continue to be made.
Remember that you can visit the exhibition “Nahuales Sagrados” from 🕛 August 8 to October 20 in the gallery of this venue (located on the second floor), do not hesitate to add this exhibition to your tour through the best exhibitions in CDMX.
