The Franz Mayer Museum, in collaboration with the Museum at FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology), presents its new exhibition: “Fashion Today! Latin American and contemporary Latin design”. An exhibition that celebrates Latin American creators and their contribution to the global fashion industry.
What is “Fashion Today” about?
It has more than 70 pieces designed by 47 Latin American artists or those of Latin American heritage, from renowned personalities and directors of fashion houses to emerging creators who you have to keep track of. You’ll see pieces from Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta and Carla Fernandez to Gabriela Hearst, Willy Chavarria and Kika Vargas, who if you don’t know, you’re going to start loving.

In 2023, curators Tanya Meléndez-Escalante and Melissa Marra-Alvarez created ¡Moda hoy! for the Museum at FIT in New York with the intention of highlighting fashion design in Latin America as a way of expressing identity.
Politics, indigenous heritage, gender, regional and urban culture, sustainability, craftsmanship, elegance and art come together to create a collection that expresses fashion created by latinxs. And that is exactly what the sections of this exhibition are called, to demonstrate that fashion in Latin America has a lot to say and a lot to be studied from many angles.
It’s not about taking Latin American fashion as an exotic product, but as a force that also influences the global design landscape. Moreover, it is not a homogenous voice, as many in the global north believe. Its diversity of style and talent is a harmony of voices, perspectives and expressions.

“Fashion today! Latin American and contemporary Latinx design” will be presented at the Franz Mayer (Hidalgo 45, Centro) until April 12, 2026. And your ticket includes general admission to the museum and the exhibition, you can buy it online here.
