You will see original paintings and objects by Kahlo and Diego Rivera. Come and enjoy this experience and plan your visit!
History of the Blue House
Located in the Colonia del Carmen neighborhood of Coyoacán, the Blue House was Frida Kahlo’s lifelong refuge and studio. Her father built it in 1904 as the family home of the Kahlo Calderón family.
After her tram accident, her mother placed a mirror above her bed in her room, and Frida began to paint.
It was also a space where Frida and Diego welcomed several famous guests, such as Leon Trotsky, André Breton, María Félix, Tina Modotti, Edward Weston, Juan O’Gorman, Dolores del Río, Isamu Noguchi, Nickolas Muray, Sergei Eisenstein, and Dr. Atl.
Finally, in 1958, it opened its doors as a house museum. Frida Kahlo’s personal belongings are carefully displayed to give visitors a special and intimate connection with the artist. In addition, you will see paintings by Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, as well as pre-Columbian sculptures, photographs, and the environment Kahlo lived in for inspiration.

Permanent exhibitions
Tour the House Museum and explore the “Artist’s Bedroom,” the “Studio,” and “The Kitchen,” spaces carefully preserved to make you feel as if Frida Kahlo still lives there. You will see more than 200 paintings and personal items belonging to the artist, including her work tools, clothing, and folk art objects.
The most famous paintings by Frida Kahlo on display at Casa Azul are “Viva la Vida” and her first self-portrait. There is also a fabulous collection of votive offerings and photographs.
In the room “Appearances Can Be Deceptive: Frida Kahlo’s Dresses,” you will see dresses and clothing that Kahlo wore to showcase her iconic style.
Last but not least, the painter’s ashes rest in an urn placed on a dressing table.
