This is the perfect experience to celebrate the season by embracing tradition and getting your hands dirty with dough. Here’s what’s in store so you can reserve your spot now.
What will you do at the Frida Kahlo Museum’s pan de muerto workshop?
This fun pan de muerto workshop in Mexico City will begin with a tour of the Frida Kahlo Museum’s iconic altar, located in the museum’s garden—one of the most beautiful you’ll find in the city this Day of the Dead.
Next comes the part you’re probably most looking forward to: the pan de muerto workshop, where you’ll learn to make your own loaves alongside pastry chefs, who will explain the ingredients and the process behind this bread so characteristic of the season.
And here comes a slight change of scenery. To continue the fermentation process and then bake the bread, the group will head to the Panadería de Centenario 107, located just one block from the museum.
While the bread bakes in the oven, there will be time to chat and reflect on the memories and traditions of the Day of the Dead. After all, pan de muerto isn’t just delicious—it also has a history and meaning that are well worth learning about.
Plus, during this part of the experience, there will be lunch provided by Centenario 107 and unlimited coffee, so you won’t have to worry about showing up on an empty stomach.
What does the pan de muerto workshop include?
The experience includes everything you need to make your own pan de muerto. Tools and an apron will be provided, along with all the ingredients to make four pan de muertos per participant.
Once the baking process is complete, you’ll be able to take your four loaves home—all made by you.
The experience lasts approximately four hours. Arrival is at 10:30 a.m., and the initial tour of the altar display will last 30 minutes.
Afterward, the preparation will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The rising time may vary slightly depending on the weather, so you’ll need to be patient while the bread works its magic.
