The Gelman Collection is about to bid farewell to the Museum of Modern Art, but it does so by leaving a significant mark. The exhibition has welcomed more than 310,000 visitors, making it one of the most-visited exhibitions in the museum’s recent history.
After being open to the public for several months, the exhibition will conclude on July 19. However, this will not be the end of the journey for this important collection of Mexican art, as it will embark on an international tour that will take its works to various museums in Europe before returning to Mexico.
The Gelman Collection Will Tour Europe
After concluding its run in Mexico City, the Gelman Collection will embark on an international tour with stops in Spain, Switzerland, and Norway. Once that tour is complete, the works will return to Mexico in 2028, when they will be exhibited at the Monterrey Museum of Contemporary Art (MARCO).
The National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL) announced that it will oversee both the temporary departure and the return of the collection, in accordance with current legislation. The goal is to guarantee the protection of this important art collection and ensure that the Mexican public can enjoy it again after its international tour.
