Let’s kick off May with a free event that will bring us must-try dishes and a taste of the state’s culture. On May 9 and 10, a festival celebrating Hidalgo will arrive in Mexico City, kicking off with a parade featuring more than 350 participants from seven dance troupes.
Hidalgo en Los Pinos is a festival that will feature everything from a food court to cultural presentations from the state. In a press release, the Ministry of Culture announced that there will be dances, dance troupes, live music, stage performances, and even a parade.
The event will take place at the Los Pinos Cultural Complex, located at Molino del Rey 252, First Section of Chapultepec Forest, Miguel Hidalgo borough.
Everything to look forward to at the Hidalgo festival in Mexico City
More than 900 artisans, cooks, artists, and workshop leaders, as well as local producers from the state, will participate in the event. It will kick off on Saturday, May 9, with a parade featuring dances and dance troupes from regions such as the Huasteca, Sierra Alta, and Valle del Mezquital.
In addition, you’ll be able to see a handcrafted rug made with dyed sand and Hñähñu iconography, including birds and flowers. The program also features concerts, traditional dances, and more.
As for food, at Cocinas de Humo you’ll find traditional dishes from Hidalgo. The menu will range from barbacoa, bean soup, tlacoyos, mole tamales, and mushroom and huitlacoche quesadillas to quelites quesadillas, Huasteca enchiladas, and empulcadas.
Of course, you’ll also be able to purchase handicrafts from the state. Artisans will offer pottery, textiles, and pieces made of reed and obsidian, as well as wooden masks. Traditional sweets, chocolate, and more will also be sold.
