If you’re looking for free things to do in Mexico City, these Historical Tours are just what you need to rediscover the city from a different perspective. Throughout April, you can explore three iconic neighborhoods with expert guides who will share stories, secrets, and fun facts you probably didn’t know.
Organized by the Ministry of Culture, these tours are designed for all ages and require no prior registration. Just show up, find the guide (you’ll recognize them by their black vest), and let yourself be swept away by the city’s past.
Three routes to travel back in time
The first tour will be on Sunday, April 12, in the Guerrero neighborhood, one of the oldest in the capital. Here you’ll visit the San Fernando Garden, the parish church of the same name, and the San Fernando Pantheon Museum, where key figures in Mexican history are laid to rest.
On Sunday, April 19, it’s the Doctores neighborhood’s turn with a tour that will take you through Lázaro Cárdenas Park and the Museum of Antique Toys of Mexico. The latter has a fascinating collection spanning from the 19th century to the 1980s (optional admission at an affordable price).
To close out the month, a new route debuts in the Álamos neighborhood on Sunday, April 26. Here you’ll discover its Spanish influence, its streets named after Iberian cities, and its architecture, including the Church of Our Lady of Consolation.
