Have you ever dreamed of launching your own skincare brand, creating handmade soaps, or making pet care products for your furry friends? If the answer is a resounding yes, we need to talk about the ultimate paradise for creators, entrepreneurs, and the curious: Droguería Cosmopolita.
But beyond the shelves filled with oils, waxes, scrubs, and soaps, this brand holds a history spanning more than 100 years; your grandparents, great-grandparents, and even great-great-grandparents surely knew about it and shopped at this store.
History of Droguería Cosmopolita
It all began in 1919, when the German banker and immigrant, Carlos Stein, purchased this iconic space in Mexico City’s Historic Center, before later moving to Avenida Revolución.
According to information provided by Carla Escudero Stein (general manager of the store and granddaughter of Carlos Stein) to Generación Anáhuac magazine, her grandfather left Hamburg because of World War I; he was headed for Chicago but ultimately decided to stay and start a business in Mexico.
During World War II, the business was nationalized by the government, but fortunately it was returned to its owner. Since then, the brand has remained in the family for three generations, with a focus on expansion and modernization.
What began as a business selling patent medicines and cosmetics is now a true giant focused on the import and distribution of chemicals.
