Get ready to experience real fear in the canals of Xochimilco. The acclaimed horror show in Xochimilco, “Supernatural, Sinister Rites of the Witches,” returns in 2025 with a spooky season for Halloween and Day of the Dead.
This immersive experience has become a cult tradition among the capital’s residents, combining theater, music, lights, dance and real scares… all from a trajinera.
Under the direction of José Luis Huerta, “Sobrenatural” will be presented from October 24 to November 8 in a unique natural setting.
Throughout the tour, spectators are immersed in a story based on real events of the 17th century, when Clementina -a woman accused of witchcraft- takes her revenge to the limit during the time of the Inquisition. The script is inspired by historical archives from the Archivo General de la Nación, adding a chilling level of realism.
What is “Supernatural”, the horror play in Xochimilco, about?
The plot is set in 16th century colonial Mexico and is inspired by events documented by the Holy Inquisition. The protagonist, Clementina, is a woman accused of being a witch who unleashes her wrath in a story full of revenge, mythology and dark rituals.
The narrative integrates elements of Mexican oral tradition, figures such as Cihuacóatl and Mictlantecuhtli, and a historical journey that connects the pre-Hispanic past with the present.
The experience is intensified thanks to real psychophonies, striking lighting and actors that emerge from the audience, achieving an atmosphere of constant suspense.
“Supernatural” is not a simple play: it is a multidisciplinary show where theater, live music, dance and circus art coexist, all set in colonial Xochimilco, the same place where the events that inspire the story took place.
