Are you already thinking about decorating your Christmas tree? There’s a getaway that might interest you. The INAH is organizing a trip to Tlalpujahua de Rayón, Michoacán, to explore one of the most traditional destinations of the Christmas season and discover how its artisans transform glass into colorful ornaments.
The excursion will take place on Sunday, November 15; it will cost $900 per person and will feature historian Sergio Fuentes Martínez, who will lead this cultural tour.
In addition to admiring the Christmas decorations that have made this “Pueblo Mágico” famous, participants will be able to learn about its history, architecture, and religious traditions.
You’ll visit the National Christmas Ball Fair in Tlalpujahua
One of the main highlights of this experience will be a visit to the National Ornaments Fair, where you’ll find a wide variety of glass ornaments crafted by local artisans.
Tlalpujahua is known for its artisanal production of Christmas ornaments, a tradition that fills its workshops and shops with colors, designs, and figures during this time of year.
The visit will be an opportunity to get an up-close look at this craft, which is part of the town’s identity and attracts visitors interested in Mexican handicrafts.
But the ornaments won’t be the only highlights of the tour.
You’ll also learn about the history of Our Lady of Carmen
During the excursion, participants will have the opportunity to see the revered image of Our Lady of Carmen, patron saint of Tlalpujahua and an important figure in the town’s religious traditions.
