Would you like to learn more about Japanese culture without leaving Mexico City? Throughout November, the National Museum of Anthropology will host “Japan Month” with activities ranging from origami and calligraphy workshops to a tea ceremony, Japanese cuisine, and music.
This initiative, organized in collaboration with the Japanese Embassy in Mexico, will take place on November 5, 7, 14, and 27, 2026. The program includes cultural activities, lectures, artistic demonstrations, and a concert dedicated to City Pop and anime songs.
What’s interesting is that there will be something for everyone: from those who enjoy crafts to those who want to learn more about the traditions, history, and connections between Japan and Mexico.
What activities will be offered during Japan Month at the Museum of Anthropology?
The program will begin on Thursday, November 5, with workshops on origami and shodō, the art of Japanese calligraphy. There will also be a performance of wadaiko, traditional Japanese drums, and a demonstration of ikebana, the art of flower arrangement.
That same day, a symposium will be held on Japanese archaeologists in Mexico and their participation in cooperation projects related to cultural heritage.
On Saturday, November 7, the activities will continue with a calligraphy workshop and a Japanese tea ceremony, known as sadō. The tea ceremony will be limited to 20 participants.
On Saturday, November 14, the origami workshop will return, and the “Corn and Rice” lecture will take place, which will include a sushi tasting.
There will also be anime music and City Pop!
The program will conclude on Friday, November 27, with a reflective gathering on the history of Japanese immigration to Mexico, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Later, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., a City Pop and Anime Song concert will be held at the Jaime Torres Bodet Auditorium, with capacity limited to 357 people.
It’s important to note that the activities have limited capacity, with some limited to just 20 participants. Details regarding registration and admission requirements are still to be confirmed.
