Can you imagine walking among thousands of Christmas lights and coming across a giant pine tree over 60 meters tall? It’s not a scene from a movie: Chignahuapan, Puebla, has already decked itself out for Christmas, and its streets have been transformed into a scene filled with spheres, colors, and monumental decorations.
This “Magical Town,” famous for its handcrafted spheres, kicked off the 2026 Christmas season with the lighting of its monumental tree and sphere. The celebration took place on October 24 and drew more than 40,000 attendees, according to municipal authorities.
A monumental pine tree and an illuminated alleyway that look like something out of a fairy tale

The star of the show is a Christmas tree over 60 meters tall, installed in the center of Chignahuapan. Its illuminated structure and the star crowning its top create a Christmas postcard scene that stands out among the buildings of the “Pueblo Mágico.”
In addition, it was announced that the tree will feature an elevator providing access to a viewing platform. The hours, costs, and conditions of access are still to be confirmed.
But the magic doesn’t end with the tree. Another attraction is the Alley of Eternal Christmas, a decorated space that, according to local reports, features around 500,000 lights and 10,000 ornaments.
Added to this is the monumental sphere, which is part of the decorations installed to celebrate one of Chignahuapan’s most important seasons.
A “Magical Town” where Christmas is also celebrated through handicrafts

Chignahuapan is known for its tradition of crafting blown-glass orbs, so visiting its workshops and shops is another way to enjoy the Christmas atmosphere.
In addition, the International Tree and Sphere Fair, dedicated to seasonal crafts and decorations, is scheduled for November 20–29, 2026. Its program and admission fees are still to be confirmed.
If you’re thinking of a getaway from Mexico City, this corner of the Sierra Norte de Puebla offers a combination of artisanal traditions, decorated streets, and giant structures that fill the season with color.
