On Tuesday, July 14, at a press conference, Mexico City authorities announced the details of the modernization project for Metro Line 3, which runs from Universidad to Indios Verdes.
These projects began with the renovation of the Universidad station; however, the next phases will have to wait, as they will not take place this year. A total of 40 billion pesos will be invested, and various initiatives are planned, including:
- Modernization of all stations on Line 3
- Purchasing 45 new trains
- Rehabilitation of the track system
- Modernization of electrical systems
Modernization work on Metro Line 3 will begin in 2027; however, no exact date has been announced, so we will have to wait for further details.
Will there be closures due to the modernization work on Metro Line 3?
Clara Brugada, head of government for Mexico City, reported that in 2026 there will be no closures on Metro Line 3 or service interruptions. Regarding 2027, once these works begin, it was explained that the projects will be carried out in a way that minimizes closures and disruptions.
Throughout the process, efforts will be made to conduct work at night and on weekends. This means there will be no prolonged closures, as occurred when Metro Line 1 was modernized.
It is worth noting that Line 3 of this transit system consists of 21 stations and transports more than one million passengers every day.
