The cultural program to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the founding of Mexico-Tenochtitlan has been revealed, and among all the activities, one of the must-see will be the incredible videomapping show in the Zócalo.
The Mexico City Government presented an ambitious cultural program headed by “Memoria luminosa. Mexico-Tenochtitlan 700 years”. This show will be projected from July 11 to 27 on the
facades of the National Palace and the Metropolitan Cathedral.
What will you see in this incredible videomapping in the Zócalo? The show will narrate the origin, development and transformation of the Mexican capital to what it is today, all with cutting-edge technology!
The event will also include the exhibition of five monumental sculptures representing the Mexica cosmogony: the Stone of the Sun, the Teocalli of the Sacred War, and figures of Coatlicue, Coyolxauhqui and Tlaltecuhtli.
In addition, there will be a screening of the film opera “Cuauhtémoc” in Nahuatl and an artistic installation “La nopalera en el corazón”, composed of 50 nopal sculptures on Paseo de la Reforma.
What else will there be besides videomapping in the Zócalo?
During the official presentation at Palacio Nacional, Clara Brugada, head of government, and President Claudia Sheinbaum also announced the creation of the Yólotl Anáhuac symbolic path.
It will be a 23-kilometer route that recovers the layout of the ancient Mexica city with lighting, murals and public art. Here you can rediscover the foundational perimeter of Tenochtitlan and Tlatelolco, and can be traveled on foot or by bicycle.
On the other hand, you can’t miss the immersive exhibition “Cosmic Codex” at the Yancuic Museum.
Another must-see? On July 26, the great ceremony “Seven Centuries of Legacy of Greatness” will take place, with 3,500 dancers and a massive historical reenactment by the Ministry of National Defense.
