Get your pup’s costume ready! A Shih Tzu gathering is being organized in Mexico City to celebrate Halloween and the Day of the Dead with a walk, a group photo, and a moment to remember pets who are no longer with us.
The event will take place on Saturday, October 24, at one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks: the Monument to the Revolution. Families are invited to bring their dogs dressed in outfits inspired by the seasonal holidays.
The gathering will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by a short walk through the area at 6:00 p.m. Finally, at 6:30 p.m., one of the highlights of the event will take place: the big official group photo of the Shih Tzus and their families.
A Shih Tzu gathering in Mexico City with candles
In addition to gathering the dogs for the traditional photo, this year’s event will feature an activity with special significance. Attendees are asked to bring a small LED candle to light during the gathering.
The intention is for each of these lights to serve as a reminder of the dogs who have “crossed the rainbow bridge” and who remain in the memories of their families.
At the same time, the lights will serve as a symbol of peace, respect, and love for animals, conveying a message against cruelty and animal abuse.
Of course, the gathering will also have a very festive side. Shih Tzus can show up in their best Halloween or Day of the Dead costumes and outfits, so we’re sure to see little skulls, marigolds, and other seasonal motifs.
