Did you feel them? At least nine micro earthquakes have been registered in CDMX this September 26, six of them occurred in Miguel Hidalgo. We tell you what is known about them.
The first of them occurred at 00:39 pm and had a magnitude of 2.9, and epicenter 2 km southeast of the mayor’s office Miguel Hidalgo in Mexico City. So far this has been the most intense.
According to the National Seismological Service, five more micro-earthquakes have occurred in that municipality:
- 5:13 a.m.: magnitude 2.0
- 5:21 a.m.: magnitude 1.0
- 5:31 a.m.: magnitude 1.0
- 5:39 a.m.: magnitude 1.5
- 14:31 p.m.: magnitude 1.4
However, there were also other micro-earthquakes this September 26th in CDMX. Their epicenter was in Benito Juárez and Álvaro Obregón.
- 10:26 a.m.: magnitude 2.4 in Benito Juarez
- 11:41 a.m.: magnitude 2.2 in Benito Juarez.
- 11:50 a.m.: magnitude 1.5 in Álvaro Obregón
According to information from the Secretariat of Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection, these microquakes were felt in Coyoacán, Magdalena Contreras, Miguel Hidalgo, Benito Juárez, Álvaro Obregón and Cuauhtémoc.
So far, no damage has been reported in Mexico City as a result of these micro-earthquakes. According to UNAM Global, these movements are frequent in the city. In 2023, approximately 85 micro-earthquakes were registered.
It was also detailed that the cause of these small earthquakes is the “action of local geological faults”. So far, five faults have been located in the CDMX:

- Santa Catarina
- San Lorenzo Tezonco
- Copilco
- Plateros-Mixcoac
