Lights, camera, action. The city has been the scene of countless films, from Spectre (the film to which we owe the Day of the Dead parade) to Godzilla. This time we bring you five movies that were filmed in CDMX, whose scenes you can visit.
“The Dance of the 41” in Casa Rivas Mercado
This movie had several locations, including Casa Rivas Mercado in CDMX. This mansion was built more than 120 years ago by architect Antonio Rivas Mercado.
And yes: you can visit it. Although much of the mansion is empty, there are rooms where you will find furniture used during the filming of the movie.
Soon this house will be used for the immersive experience Murder Mystery, in which you will have to solve a murder. It is located at C. Héroes 45, colonia Guerrero, alcaldía Cuauhtémoc.
“Romeo + Juliet” in the Del Valle neighborhood
Based on the story by William Shakespeare and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. Part of this film was shot in two locations in Mexico City: Chapultepec Castle and the Parish of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, located in the Del Valle neighborhood.
In this parish Romeo and Juliet are secretly married. It is located on Gabriel Mancera Street between Torres Adalid and Luz Saviñón.
“The avenger of the future” in the subway
This is one of the movies that were filmed in CDMX. In the early 90’s we saw on the big screen how Arnold Schwarzenegger runs in a corridor and gigantic stairs that you have surely walked more than once.
Although the scenarios are modified with a futuristic look, during the film we can recognize several places in Chilango such as the interior of the Chabacano subway and part of the Glorieta de Insurgentes.
“Man on fire” in the CDMX
In this tape you can see places like Paseo de la Reforma, the Historic Center, Polanco, Condesa and Plaza de Santo Domingo, to name a few. Obviously many things have changed with the passing of time, for example, nowadays we no longer see the classic green vochitos on the streets.
“Los tres García” in Cuajimalpa
Do you remember the church scene? It was filmed in the municipality of Cuajimalpa, right in the Parish of San Pedro. The precinct is still as we saw it in Los tres García. In front of it, a museum dedicated to Pedro Infante was built, which is temporarily closed.
Both enclosures are located in the esplanade of the mayor’s office.
