If you enjoy visiting museums in a different way, this event is for you. The Kaluz Museum will once again join Museum Night with an evening that blends art, history, and live music.
Next Wednesday, March 25, the museum will open its doors in the afternoon so you can freely explore the exhibition *El jardín de Velasco*, a show that offers a different perspective on the famous Mexican landscape painter José María Velasco.
The experience will begin with a tour of the museum’s temporary exhibition halls. Afterward, the evening will end with rhythm and energy thanks to a salsa concert that promises to liven up the museum.
Art, Science, and Nature in “El jardín de Velasco”
The exhibition El jardín de Velasco reveals a little-known facet of the artist: his interest in science and nature.
Through paintings, sketches, manuscripts, and personal objects, the exhibition explores how the painter studied the Mexican landscape from both an artistic and scientific perspective.
The project stems from the José María Velasco Collection, acquired by the Kaluz Museum in 2023 and comprising more than 2,500 previously unseen pieces. Among them are sketchbooks, letters, botanical studies, and materials that offer a deeper understanding of his creative process.
The exhibition is divided into different sections that show how Velasco was much more than just a landscape painter. He was also a keen observer of nature with an interest in botany, geology, and 19th-century scientific knowledge.
During Museum Night, you can explore these galleries at your own pace and discover details about the artist that are rarely shown to the public.
Live salsa to close out the night
The evening will culminate with a performance by Las Salseras del Barrio (Salsa Girls), a group known for its energy on stage and its rhythm-filled repertoire.
Their show promises to get the museum moving with classics and arrangements that celebrate salsa from a contemporary perspective. Without a doubt, a unique way to enjoy art in the heart of the Historic Center.
Of course, space is limited, so it’s best to arrive early.
