If you haven’t yet visited the exhibition dedicated to Remedios Varo, this is the sign you’ve been waiting for. The Museum of Modern Art (MAM) announced that “Remedios Varo: Inhabitants of the Unusual” will remain open until 2027, allowing more people to discover the world of one of the most important artists of Surrealism and a key figure in Mexico’s artistic heritage.
The exhibition’s renewal not only extends the time visitors have to explore it but also incorporates rarely seen works and documents that offer a fresh perspective on the painter’s career, enriching the experience for those who have already visited and for those who will be visiting for the first time.
A New Look at the World of Remedios Varo
The exhibition brings together 90 works from the Remedios Varo Art Collection at the Museum of Modern Art, which engage in a dialogue with pieces from other institutions to explore different facets of her creative process.
Among the new additions are paintings, drawings, photographs, books, sketchbooks, and sketches—materials that provide a closer look at how the artist conceived her works and constructed the fantastical scenes that characterize her body of work.
As part of the curatorial update, the exhibition also includes works that Remedios Varo created for Bayer de México, a portrait by Emilio Baz Viaud, and an exhibition dialogue with the Marysole Wörner Baz exhibition, which is currently also on view at the venue.
