Are you a nature lover? If you want to learn more about the pollinators that keep many ecosystems alive, you’ll love this plan. In Mexico City, there will be a workshop on native bees in a chinampa, where you can learn about their diversity, biology, and ecological importance.
The activity will take place at Chinampa Abejas de Barrio, a space dedicated to the conservation and dissemination of information about these fascinating insects.
The best part? The workshop will be led by UNAM specialists with extensive experience in research and protection of native bees: Dr. Ismael A. Hinojosa Díaz and Ana Celeste Martínez Cervantes.
During the session, you will enjoy an educational outdoor experience on the chinampa, surrounded by nature and learning directly from experts.
What you will learn in the native bee workshop
Throughout the workshop, you will discover key aspects about these important pollinators. Among the topics that will be covered are the identification and anatomy of bees, their life cycle, as well as the diversity and classification of native species that inhabit Mexico.
The relationship between bees and plants, which is fundamental to ecosystems and food production, will also be explained. In addition, the threats currently facing bees and what actions can help their conservation will be discussed.
Another topic will be the creation of pollinator gardens, a simple alternative to support these insects from home or in community spaces.
The workshop will take place on March 21 and 22, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The meeting point will be shared once you complete your registration.
To participate, it is recommended that you bring a notebook and pencil to take notes, as well as a hat or cap and comfortable clothing, as the experience takes place outdoors.
