Mexico City is about to gain a new public space that promises to change the way people experience one of its busiest avenues. The Tlalpan Elevated Park, also known as the “floating boulevard, ” now has an official opening date and will open its doors just before the 2026 World Cup.
This project aims to reclaim space for pedestrians in an area historically dominated by vehicular traffic. The structure is being built over the Calzada de Tlalpan, utilizing the corridor where Metro Line 2 also runs, to create an elevated walkway designed for walking, resting, and enjoying the city from a different perspective.
When will the Tlalpan Elevated Park open?

According to an announcement by city authorities, the opening is scheduled for May 31, 2026. The opening is part of a series of urban improvement projects being carried out in preparation for the World Cup, an event for which Mexico City will be one of the main host cities.
Although the first phase will be completed this year, the project includes future expansions that could extend the corridor through 2027.
This is what Mexico City’s new floating walkway will look like

More than just a pedestrian bridge, the Tlalpan Elevated Park was conceived as a contemporary linear park. In its first phase, it will extend over 1.5 kilometers and will feature walking and biking trails, green spaces, street furniture, lighting, and access points connected to Metro stations.
One of the most interesting aspects is that it will allow visitors to explore the city from an elevated perspective, away from the noise and heavy traffic that characterizes this thoroughfare.
In addition, the structure will feature monitoring systems and sensors to assess its behavior in the event of seismic activity, a critical element for a city like the nation’s capital.
With this project, Mexico City is committed to mobility that is more friendly to pedestrians and cyclists. And although its opening coincides with the arrival of the 2026 World Cup, everything points to the Tlalpan Elevated Park becoming a new permanent meeting place for those seeking to enjoy the city at a different pace.
