If you love Mexican folk art, mark your calendar, because Original is returning to Los Pinos. This Textile, Decorative, and Utilitarian Art Fair is a special edition that will bring together more than 500 master artisans from different communities across the country.
This World Cup-themed edition aims to celebrate living cultures, promote fair trade, and recognize artisanal work as one of Mexico’s most important cultural expressions. In addition to being able to purchase unique handmade pieces, there will also be activities for the whole family.
Among textiles, decorative art, and utilitarian objects, you’ll find creations made by 515 artisans, members of 84 collectives and 66 workshops from 31 states across the country. Together, they represent 35 indigenous languages and communities. You’ll see more than 17 different craft categories!
Workshops, music, and activities for the whole family
Original will be more than just a craft market. There will also be workshops for all ages, special areas for babies aged 0 to 5, activities for seniors, Mexican cuisine, and musical performances over several days.
The event is sponsored by the Mexican Ministry of Culture and has established itself as one of the most important cultural and artisanal projects in Latin America. Its goal is to highlight community-based work and strengthen the recognition of artisans as bearers of memory, identity, and traditional knowledge.
So if you’re looking for something different to do in Mexico City, here you can meet creators from different regions of the country in person, as well as discover textiles, embroidery, ceramics, decorative items, and utilitarian art that you’ll be hard-pressed to find anywhere else.
