The cold season has already started and it’s time to keep warm! In the State of Mexico there is a town known for its flea market of wool sweaters, jackets and other garments that will keep you very warm.
It is Guadalupe Yancuictlalpan, better known as Gualupita or the Land of the Sarape. Caps, scarves, hats and coats are just some of the pieces made by its artisan wool weavers.
Currently you will find clothes of all kinds, sizes and prices, however, we recommend you to buy wool garments to support local trade and the culture of wool in this region.
It should be noted that the gabán or sarape jaspeado is a representative technique of Gualupita. In addition to wool, other materials can be used, such as cotton, linen and even cashmere. The pieces are made on looms and frames, and can have an endless number of shapes, colors and designs.

Although there are stores that sell jackets and sweaters every day, the town’s tianguistenco market has a wide variety of warm clothing. You’ll find it on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Marilyn Monroe wore a Gualupita sweater!
According to the Secretary of Culture and Tourism of the State of Mexico, the sweaters of Guadalupe Yancuictlalpan are internationally recognized.
The agency claims that there is a photograph of Marilyn Monroe in which she wears a wool sweater made in this town. However, there are those who claim that the design is from Chiconcuac de Juarez.
During the cold season, don’t hesitate to visit Gualupita in the municipality of Santiago Tianguistenco in the State of Mexico! You are sure to find something warm for you and your family.
