
At the age of 13, the rescue dog Rex passed away after suffering from a degenerative disease for several years. Throughout his life he participated in different rescue tasks, including the earthquake of September 19, 2017.
According to José Ignacio Peralta, former governor of Colima, this Belgian shepherd was born in that state in September 2011. In total he participated in 15 rescue and search activations, being his last service in 2021, during the collapse on the Colima-Minatitlán highway.
Regarding his work in the earthquake of September 19, 2017, it is explained that he found five people, one of them alive, in Mexico City. Let’s remember that the CDMX was one of the entities affected by said 7.1 magnitude tremor.
After a long career, Rex retired in 2021 and was adopted by his former trainer. After suffering from a degenerative disease that affected his joints, the rescue dog Rex passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. The news was released through social networks by his caregiver.
It is important to mention that Rex is a rescue dog from Colima. In Puebla lives another dog named Rex, which belongs to the Red Cross and participated in the rescues after the earthquake in Turkey.
