Did you see a post announcing the arrival of the magical lantern festival to the city? Before you buy your tickets you have to read this note! The Procuraduría Federal del Consumidor (Profeco) explained that the Thai Lantern Festival in CDMX, called Siam Vibes Thai Fest is possibly a fraud.
In the last few days, an event filled with thousands of lights floating in the sky, live music, delicious food and more , which promises to replicate the experience of the Chiang Mai Festival in Thailand, has been announced.
According to the description, attendees could experience writing a message on their floating lamp and then releasing it in a ritual, as well as enjoying a Thai-style buffet where they would enjoy an exotic dinner.
The official website (siamvibesfest.com) mentions that tickets include free Thai food buffet during the whole event, three drinks, a lantern kit, a wish book, a t-shirt and a cap.
This event announced its arrival in Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey, with few tickets available, as it was announced that tickets were already on sale and flying.
Is the Thai Lantern Festival in CDMX a scam?
Last April 21, Profeco issued an alert for possible fraud in this event:
“The Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) alerts the consumer population about an event called Siam Events Fest, Thai Festival, announced by the company Siamvibes, to be held supposedly in the cities of Mexico, Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, and Guadalajara, Jalisco, and which could be a fraud.”
The press release also states that Profeco had contact with the heads of the GNP Seguros Stadium and Fundidora Park (where the event was supposed to take place) and in both cases they denied having any knowledge of said festival.
The Thai Lantern Festival in CDMX was announced for June 15, July 6 and August 3, 2025, and would be held outside the GNP Seguros Stadium from 17:00 to 23:00 hours.
It also warns that, in order to be sold in Mexico, the prices should be announced in pesos and not in dollars. In addition, it calls to report any irregularity or abuse to the Consumer Telephone: 55 5568 8722 and 800 468 8722, as well as through social networks: @Profeco, and on Facebook: ProfecoOficial.
