Public restrooms in smart modules were recently inaugurated, and they are located at various points throughout Mexico City.
The stalls are unisex and feature a self-cleaning system, so you’ll find a restroom in optimal condition.
If you come across one of them and need to use it, here is a complete guide covering everything from cost and hours to exact locations.
Where are they located?
So far, only the first seven restrooms have been installed. Mexico City’s Director of Metropolitan Services, Carlos Mackinley, announced that by the end of 2026 there will be a total of 26 restrooms.
The restrooms are located at:
- Chapultepec Ave., at the intersection with Liverpool St.
- Chapultepec Ave., outside the Sevilla Metro station
- In La Ciudadela, across from the Biblioteca de México
- Two units in the Jardín del Arte, in the San Rafael neighborhood
- Two units near the Monument to the Revolution, in the Plaza de la República
It should be noted that the restrooms located on Chapultepec Avenue are already in operation; the others will begin operating on Friday, May 29.
Cost and payment methods

Access to these smart restrooms in Mexico City will cost $7; however, during the first twelve days of the trial period, access will be free from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. This trial period will end on June 8.
Note: Remember that you’ll need to pay with your Integrated Mobility Card (the same one you use to access public transit like the Metro or Metrobús). You can also use a credit or debit card (VISA and MasterCard).
Hours
The restrooms will be open Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to midnight, and on weekends from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. During large events, service may be available 24 hours a day.
Usage time and self-cleaning system
After making the payment using one of the methods mentioned, the booth door will open.
The restroom is equipped with toilet paper, hand soap, and baby changing stations. You’ll have only nine minutes to use it, and once that time is up, a buzzer will sound. Then, the toilet will begin a self-cleaning cycle, and after five uses, the stall will undergo automatic disinfection that lasts a minute and a half. Additionally, the stalls will be manually maintained and cleaned.
