Tin Tan and the Kaluz Museum
According to the museum’s website, the construction of the building was completed in 1780. It was originally intended to be the Hospedería de Santo Tomás de Villanueva.
Throughout its history it had different uses, and even functioned for a time as a neighborhood. It was there where Germán Valdés “Tin Tan” was born and spent the first part of his life.
As his father was a customs agent, Germán and his family moved to Chihuahua, where he spent his adolescence and early adulthood. After a successful career that included music, acting and even dubbing, he died in 1973 in Mexico City.
With respect to the museum, with the passage of time the place also functioned as the Cortés Hotel. Before becoming a museum, the entire place was restored, converting what were once rooms into exhibition halls.
The Kaluz Museum was inaugurated in 2020. You can visit it from 📅Wednesday to Monday from 🕛10 :00 to 18:00. The 🎟️costo entrance fee is $60 for nationals and $90 for foreigners. It is worth mentioning that it has an unmissable terrace where you will see the Historic Center of the CDMX.
It is located at 📍Hidalgo Avenue 85, Historic Center of Mexico City.
