Good news for the CDMX! The heroic Fire Department of the CDMX announced the new element that has joined the rescue team. We tell you all about Togo the CDMX firefighter rescue dog.
This new member has a shiny black coat, four legs and a specially trained sense of smell to help in the search for people trapped in collapsed structures.
Togo is a German shepherd who surprised everyone during the presentation event, where he participated in a rescue drill of a person trapped under the rubble. It took the firefighter rescue dog just over a minute to identify the exact spot where the injured person was!

Togo, the firefighter dog joins the mission to save lives, together with his partner, firefighter Donovan Millán. They will be the first homo-canine cell of the CDMX Fire Department.
For eight months, Donovan Millán was in charge of Togo’s training and preparation, so they have developed a unique bond full of love and companionship.
“Togo and I have a strong bond. If we didn’t have it, there would be no way to do the job because day by day I work with the dog, he lives with me, he comes to work with me and that coexistence I have with him is what motivates him to do the tasks successfully and everything is based on trust,” said firefighter Donovan Millán.
The chief of the CDMX Fire Department, Juan Manuel Pérez Cova, highlighted the importance of having this new member in his team, as it had been decades without having fire dogs.
“After decades of not having a cell where dogs are our allies, we are giving way to this fundamental stage for us (…) from today, it is another partner for the support and rescue of collapsed structures, which we not only see in earthquakes, but also in LP gas deflagrations, which is our number one emergency or fires,” said the chief of the Fire Department of the CDMX.
