Do you have a vehicle with foreign license plates in Mexico City and the State of Mexico? If you answered yes, it is essential that you know everything about the Tourist Pass.
The first thing you should know is that the Tourist Pass is a permit granted to be able to travel in the city without restrictions, and it is valid for 14 days per semester.
This procedure is 100% free and can be done online. It is important to know that it is mandatory for drivers visiting the CDMX.
The Tourist Pass exempts you from the “Hoy No Circula” Program. However, it is not valid on days when there is an environmental contingency.
If your vehicle has license plates from CDMX, the State of Mexico, Hidalgo, Morelos, Puebla, Querétaro and Tlaxcala, it will not be necessary to apply for it, since these plates are based on the Hoy No Circula Program.
How can I apply online?
It is very simple! You can log in to the Llave CDMX Expediente page, or create an account in which you can associate your vehicle’s license plate to your account. You can associate up to 3 license plates.
Once logged in, you must select the number of days your Tourist Pass will be valid. We recommend that you make sure it covers all your days of stay in the CDMX.
You must download the generated documents, print them and place them in your vehicle. You can also check your Tourist Pass at any time in the Llave app and use it for other digital procedures.
What are the requirements to complete the procedure? You only need to be a private vehicle, have your vehicle registration card at hand, an email address and you’re ready to go.
What could happen if you bring your Tourist Pass?
Remember that this procedure is free but mandatory if you visit the CDMX with foreign license plates. In case you drive in the CDMX or the State of Mexico and do not have your valid Tourist Pass, you will be subject to the restrictions of the “Hoy No Circula” Program and you will be subject to any of the CDMX traffic fines for driving on restricted days.
Did you get a traffic ticket in the CDMX and you have license plates from another state? You should know that the traffic officer will be authorized to take away your front license plate, your registration card or your driver’s license.
