The Vasconcelos Library made official its temporary closure, due to conflicts with its workers union.
The announcement was published on the official social networks of the precinct, which explained that there is still no definite date to reopen its doors.
“We regret the affectations and reaffirm our commitment to transparency and strengthening of cultural spaces that are safe and open to dialogue,” reads the message.

Do you have books on loan amidst the closure of the Vasconcelos Library?

In the midst of the digital era, the library has maintained its home book lending system. With it, people can take up to three copies home, with prior registration as an affiliated reader (there is no cost).
The loan agreement establishes a maximum term of 21 days to keep the books, after which different sanctions are imposed for non-compliance:
- One month without loan service for the first non-compliance.
- Three months suspension if you accumulate three late deliveries.
- Six months without service if you accumulate five defaults.
But this time, because the closure cannot be attributed to the readers, the Vasconcelos has made it official that there will be no penalty for late return of borrowed books.
Since it is impossible to know when you will be able to return them, you don’t have to worry for now.
However, keep an eye on our contents, where we will announce when they will reopen, so you can be sure to return them within the first 21 days of the reopening.
The National Union of Culture (Sinac) was dissatisfied with the recent budget cuts announced in the area of culture, which would also affect museums, theaters, cinema and broadcasting.
