The Water Lantern Festival is a fabulous spectacle where people release paper lanterns with messages, memories, or wishes to float on Lake Chapultepec. It is a moving event of introspection and gratitude that will also illuminate the heart of our city.
What to expect from this experience?
The Yipeng festival inspired this incredible event where thousands of lanterns are released into the air to show devotion to Buddha and the celestial deities. They also release floating lights on the water, a tradition called Krathong, which is to honor the water deities. It is also believed that if a couple’s lanterns float together, they are destined for eternal love. Isn’t that romantic? On this occasion, we will simply release our best thoughts onto the water. You can write your wishes, reflections, thanks, or any thoughts that spring from your heart on the lanterns. Then, you can release it with an internal light onto the surface of the water. Meanwhile, there will also be food, drink, and music stands for the whole family. It’s an event to bring the best vibes and celebrate with your loved ones! It’s important to mention that attendance at this event is completely free, however, if you want to participate by releasing your lantern, you can purchase packages that include all the materials and will be given to you on the day of the event.

You can participate in the Water Lantern Festival on March 21 and 22 at Lake Chapultepec. The event will begin at 4:00 p.m. and end at 10:00 p.m., giving you plenty of time to receive your lantern, decorate it, release it into the lake, and enjoy the food and drinks that will be available.
