With the songs “Cielito lindo” and “El son de la negra” they will try to break a world record of mariachis in CDMX. Hundreds of these musicians will play these songs at the same time in the capital’s Zócalo. The best thing is that you will be able to attend this musical spectacle.
From November 6 to 10, the first World Mariachi Congress will take place in Mexico City, whose main mission will be to pay tribute to the mariachi and Mexican music. That is why different musical presentations will be offered, some of which will be free of charge.
They are going for the world record of mariachis in CDMX.
The Zócalo will be filled with music on November 10, when hundreds of mariachis will gather to perform two emblematic songs and break a world record for the largest number of mariachis playing simultaneously. Originally the event was to be held at the Monumento a la Revolución; however, it was decided to change it to the Zócalo.
The event will start at 1:00 pm. It is worth mentioning that this will not be the only activity of this Congress; there will also be shows, verbenas in different parts of Mexico City and many surprises. Here is the schedule by day:
November 6
- Inauguration – Plaza Garibaldi: will begin at 1:00 pm and will feature Mariachi Gallos de México, Mariachi 2000 de Cutberto Pérez and Mariachi Sonidos de América.
- Mariachi Magno Concert – Auditorio Alejo Peralta del IPN: you will see on stage Mariachi Lira de Oro, Mariachi Juvenil de México and Mariachi México de Pepe Villa. The date is at 7:00 p.m.
- First verbena – Alameda Sur: the 100th anniversary of the Salón Tenampa will be celebrated. Mariachi León, Mariachi Valle de México de Marco Monjardín and Mariachi Esto es mi tierra will participate in this musical verbena.
November 7th
- Second Mariachi Grand Concert – Teatro del Centro Cultural Roberto Cantoral: Starts at 7:00 pm and will feature Mariachi Mexicana Hermosa, Mariachi Arce de México and Mariachi Juvenil Tecalitlán.
- Third mariachi concert – Auditorio Alejo Peralta del IPN: Mariachi Gallos de México, Mariachi Ángeles de Calimaya and Mariachi Continental will headline the event, which will begin at 7:00 p.m.
- Second verbena – Alameda sur: will begin at 7:00 p.m. and on stage will be Mariachi Femenil Corona, Mariachi Corona, Mariachi Rey de América and Mariachi Camperos de México.
November 8th
- Fourth Mariachi Grand Concert – Expo Reforma: starts at 7:00 pm. You will see Mariachi Emperadores de México, Internacional Mariachi Puebla and Mariachi 2000 de Cutberto Pérez.
- Fifth mariachi concert – Auditorio Alejo Peralta: starts at 7:00 p.m. with Mariachi Aguila de México, Mariachi Perla Jalisciense and Mariachi Escuela Ollin Yoliztli.
- Third verbena – Alameda Sur: Mariachi Internacional Caballeros de México, Mariachi Reinas de Garibaldi, Mariachi Nuevo Monarcas and Mariachi Nuestro México.
November 9th
- Sixth grand mariachi concert – Auditorio Alejo Peralta del IPN: you will see Mariachis Sonidos de América, Mariachi Potros de México and Nuestro Mariachi de Enrique Cruz starting at 7:00 p.m.
- Seventh mariachi concert – Teatro de la ciudad: will be led by Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, Mariachi de América de Jesús Rodríguez de Hijar and Orquesta Universitaria de Música Popular.
- Fourth verbena – Alameda Sur: Mariachi Oro de América, Mariachi Emperadores de Victor Lemus and Mariachi Femenil Cuscatlán from 7:00 pm.
November 10th
- World record of mariachis in CDMX- Zócalo: two songs “Cielito lindo” and “El son de la negra” will be performed.
- Closing concert – Teatro del Centro Cultural Roberto Cantoral: Orquesta Universitaria de Música Popular, Mariachi Universidad Veracruzana and Mariachi de América de Jesús Rodríguez de Hijar.
The grand concerts are free of charge, while the verbenas are free of charge, as is the event in the Zócalo and the inauguration.
