The monumental catrinas will once again take over the streets of Atlixco! El Valle de Catrinas 2026 will celebrate its sixth edition from October 9 to November 8, and this year’s theme promises highly photogenic sculptures: “Pre-Hispanic Gods.”
The theme was confirmed by the Atlixco City Council in the call for entries directed at local artists, artisans, and collectives tasked with designing and creating the new pieces. For this edition, up to 15 projects will be selected, which will reinterpret various deities from Mexico’s indigenous cultures through monumental sculptures.
As in previous editions, the catrinas will be made of papier-mâché and will be displayed at various locations throughout Atlixco, transforming streets and public spaces into a Day of the Dead tour.
Where will the monumental catrinas be located?

The exact locations of the sculptures for Valle de Catrinas 2026 have yet to be confirmed, but we know they will be placed at various points throughout the city, and that one is planned to be set in a field of cempasúchil flowers as part of the experience.
In addition, information shared about this edition suggests that the project will extend beyond Atlixco, with monumental catrinas appearing in other Mexican states and abroad. The specific destinations for 2026 have not yet been announced.
The sixth edition will begin on October 9, and the opening ceremony is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Zócalo in Atlixco.
Catrinia will also be part of this year’s festival

This year, Catrinia 2026 will join Valle de Catrinas. This immersive experience will take place from October 2 to November 1 at the Atlixco Convention Center, and you can visit it with tickets starting at 400 pesos.
