Day of the Dead festivities continue in the Historic Center! One of the must-see events is the “Sacred Destinations: Miquiztli Mexica” experience, which is inspired by the pre-Hispanic worldview of life and death.
The event is scheduled for October 31 and November 1, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The venue? The splendid UNAM Palacio de la Autonomía (Lic. Primo de Verdad 2).
The tour is inspired by places such as Mictlán, Tlalocan, Tonatiuhichan, and Chichihuacuauhco; there will be two ways to experience it. The first is “Origin and Roots,” a self-guided tour where you can explore the sites at your own pace, complemented by an audiovisual presentation. The second is the Ancestral Experience, which adds a sensory journey featuring sounds, scents, textures, and lighting; it lasts about 40 minutes (with limited capacity and assigned time slots, so be sure to arrive 20 minutes early).
Handicrafts, pan de muerto, and Oaxacan cuisine
As if that weren’t enough, there will be an area featuring entrepreneurs and artisans that blends pre-Hispanic elements with the modern Day of the Dead culture. Get ready to sample delicious Oaxacan cuisine prepared by traditional cooks, pan de muerto, and chocolates, and take home alebrijes, handcrafted jaguars, xoloitzcuintle figurines, and jewelry.
