2. Ofrenda in the Zócalo
As every year, in the Zócalo of CDMX a monumental Day of the Dead offering will be installed. This year’s edition will consist of 21 pieces up to ten meters high, two trajineras, a canoe and even a water mirror. You will also see a field of marigolds. Of course, the traditional allusive lighting will not be missing.

3. Day of the Dead at Los Pinos
The Los Pinos Cultural Complex will be going all out with activities for all ages. Workshops, theater plays, cempasúchil atole tasting, Mexican legends and more. Come out this weekend!

4. Offering to Frida Kahlo
At Frida Kahlo ‘s Casa Azul, an offering was set up dedicated to her painting Viva la Vida, recognized for being the last piece the artist made. With elements such as marigolds, watermelons, fruits and some self-portraits of the painter, this is one of the most beautiful altars in Mexico City. 🍉

5. Calaveras Festival
Special Day of the Dead activities will be held at the Aztlán amusement park. For several days there will be face painting, a parade of spirits of light and even free rides on the iconic Ferris wheel. Ideal to take the whole family! 🎡

6. Chinita de mis amores
Will you be at the Mexico City International Airport? You’ll be delighted to know that they installed a monumental catrina called Chinita e mis amores. It’s a piece inspired by the chinas poblanas; she’s wearing costumes and sports the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe. Get your camera ready!

7. Festival of Offerings and Floral Arrangements.
As every year the Historic Center will be filled with offerings. Different businesses, museums, institutions and other establishments join the festival by installing great altars. Arm the tour and take a walk to photograph them. 💀

8. Macario at UNAM
The Máxima Casa de Estudios will have scary Mexican cinema. The billboard includes films such as La Llorona and Dos Monjes. One of the most anticipated screenings is Macario, which you will be able to watch outdoors. 🎬

It’s time to buy everything you need for your ofrenda. A perfect place to do it is the Festival de Flores de Cempasúchil. Producers from Mexico City offer their products that are mainly grown in Milpa Alta and Xochimilco. There will also be other allusive decorations. 🏵️

13. Megaofrenda at UNAM
The Mexican tradition of placing ofrendas is one of the most awaited on Day of the Dead. Among all of them, the one at UNAM shines brightly.
For this year, it is confirmed that it will pay tribute to the best of Mexican cinema and the people who have made it possible. The official title is “Mexico seen through the lens“.
The call is now open for the entire university community to participate.

15. Legends in the aquarium

16. Coco Concert
This Day of the Dead 2024, the Coco show returns to the Plaza de Toros in the CDMX. Artists commemorate this holiday, this time Camila Fernández, Mario Bautista, Natalia Lafourcade and Sofia Garza will perform songs from the film. 🎺

17. Museum of Popular Art
Among the exhibitions that you will be able to appreciate during the Day of the Dead is the one at MAP. It is a small exhibition in the “Popular Art and the Sacred” room with skulls, catrinas, altars and pieces of cardboard and clay. Ideal to get to know it during this season. 💀

18. Night of Legends in Xochimilco
Isla de las Muñecas is one of the most mysterious (and creepy!) places in Xochimilco and all of CDMX.

22. Mexicráneos
Don’t miss your photo with the giant skulls! Mexicráneos 2024 is already at the Bicentennial Park. This year, 12 pieces are premiering; their designs are inspired by the nature of the park, so a colorful and very original exhibition awaits you.
In addition to this year’s works, you will see the skulls from previous editions. Some are located next to the basketball court and others surround the artificial lake. 💀

23. Valley of Catrinas 2024
If you’re looking for Day of the Dead activities near CDMX, head to Puebla. In the municipality of Atlixco, everything is ready for the Valley of Catrinas 2024. It is a tour with monumental catrinas; the designs will represent historical characters of Mexico. Take into account that the pieces will be located in different points of the municipality.

Mictlán is a circus show that will tell you a story alluding to the underworld and the culture of the Day of the Dead. On stage you will see acrobatics, aerial dance, juggling and much more.

25. Festival of Light and Life
If this Day of the Dead you are planning to escape from CDMX, this festival cannot be missing in your list of activities. It takes place in the lagoon of Chignahuapan, Puebla, and is an event that represents a pre-Hispanic ritual. All amidst pyrotechnics, music and torchlight parade.

26. Nezamictlán
Near CDMX there will also be great Day of the Dead activities. One of them is the festival being organized in Neza. The Papalote Museo del Niño in CDMX will have a festival with special activities for the Day of the Dead. The little ones will be able to see film screenings, workshops and even join a themed parade. In addition, in the esplanade of the precinct there is an altar called Ofrenda del Futuro where tribute is paid to Mexican endemic species that are in danger of extension. 🐢
