1. Day of the Dead 2025 Grand Parade

The Day of the Dead Parade 2025 has been confirmed! It is one of the must-see events of the season; this edition is called “The Art of Drag and Free Fighting”. You’ll see comparsas, giant figures, floats and much more.

2. Mega Catrinas Procession

One of the must-sees is the Mega Procession of the Catrinas, a parade where you will see creatures of the Day of the Dead. Catrines and Catrinas will pass through the main streets of Mexico City and you can participate with your best costume.
Professional makeup artists will be on site to help you look great! Each makeup artist has a different rate.

3. Monumental offering in the Zócalo

The monumental offering in the Zócalo of CDMX has been confirmed! This 2025 the design will be dedicated to the commemoration of the 700th anniversary of the founding of Mexico-Tenochtitlan. Get ready to see the representation of Tonantzin dedicating an offering, chinampas and different animals.

4. Coffee and Chocolate Fest

The National Museum of Popular Cultures will have a gastronomic event with a Day of the Dead theme. There will be a cacao ceremony, philosophical coffees, tastings and much more. Don’t you just crave a warm drink during the fall?

5. Illuminated concert

This show pays tribute to those who are no longer on this plane, but we remember fondly. With guitar, trumpet and percussion, a group of artists will perform songs like Amor Eterno, Paloma Negra and Hasta la Raíz. Nostalgia will be illuminated with hundreds of candles!

6. Ballet de Amalia Hernández in Chapultepec

The Ballet Folklorico de Amalia Hernandez will perform at Chapultepec Lake this Day of the Dead! It will be a memorable show with an interpretation of the legend of La Llorona and a scenography that brings together all the elements of this festivity.

7. Opera in the Zócalo

CDMX’s Zócalo will vibrate with an opera show to commemorate the Day of the Dead 2025. The presentation is called Cuauhtemóctzin and is based on the essay Episodio Guatimótzin by Aniceto Ortegaestará; the opera will be told in Nahuatl, Maya and Spanish.

8. Megaofrenda UNAM

As every year, UNAM’s monumental ofrenda will surprise you with its installations, but also with an important message. This year’s theme is “Traces of our history. Migrations, exile, refuge and displacement”. There will also be a calaveritas contest and more.

9. Festival of Ofrendas and Catrinas

During the Day of the Dead season, you can’t miss a tour around the Historic Center of CDMX. Several locals join this festival in which they decorate their facades, install great ofrendas and become the perfect spot to take pictures. This year’s theme is the commemoration of the 700th anniversary of the founding of the Great Tenochtitlan.

10. La Llorona in Xochimilco

La Llorona: The Last Heartbeat of Water recovers the mysticism and legend of this figure of terror in a staging with ancestral sounds. It is an immersive experience that you will enjoy from a trajinera while the stage is a chinampa in the middle of the canals of Xochimilco. The tour starts at the Embarcadero de Cuemanco and we recommend you to be warm and wear mosquito repellent.

11. Altar to Frida Kahlo and Juan O’Gorman at Casa Azul (Blue House)

As is tradition, at the Casa Azul they put up a beautiful altar to Frida Kahlo, but this year she shares it with one of her dearest friends: Juan O’Gorman (who celebrates 120 years of birth). Both ofrendas have elements representative of each artist: Frida’s is full of color, crafts and folk art, while Juan’s incorporates geometric shapes and an orderly, functionalist style. But the most beautiful thing is that they also feature mirrors that reflect the other to symbolize the encounter and connection they had in life.

12. Festival of Souls

Plan a getaway to Valle de Bravo to enjoy this Day of the Dead festival. There will be music, dance, theater and a lot of allusive activities, one of the most anticipated is the parade to be held on November 1 at 5:00 p.m. Are you missing it?

13. Alfeñique Fair

This festival is one of the most important in Toluca during the Day of the Dead. Artisans and exhibitors will offer the iconic calaveritas and other candy figures. There will also be different activities such as concerts, the largest papel picado in the world, gastronomy, tours of the cemetery and more.
We know that this plan is not in the CDMX, although it is very close; it is worth a little getaway to surprise yourself with the traditions around the alfeñique.

14. Journey to Mictlán

In this immersive experience you will discover the place where souls arrive: the Mictlán. Through projections, lights and other installations you will learn about the nine levels of the underworld. Do you dare to cross them?

In addition to the Llorona show, Xochimilco has a lot of events to commemorate the Day of the Dead. Among the not-to-be-missed ones is this trajinera route. In addition to visiting some chinampas, you will have a gastronomic experience and a legendary atmosphere.

17. On the way to Mictlán Fest

There will be a Day of the Dead festival in the Centro Histórico! Camino al Mictlán is an event inspired by the nine levels of the underworld; you can enjoy pre-Hispanic rituals, immersive theater and more artistic activities.
In addition, there will be more than 70 exhibitors offering figurines, edibles, decoration and other items from different states of Mexico.

18. Monumental Alebrijes Parade

This is not a Day of the Dead event, but it does happen during the season. The alebrijes parade is a colorful party where cardboard figures, troupes and dancers go through the main streets of CDMX. If you have never seen this celebration live, this year is the perfect time to do it!
As in previous years, the alebrijes participating in the parade will be exhibited on Paseo de la Reforma, from October 18 to November 9.

19. Catrinerías Festival

The Ex-Hacienda de Chautla prepared a festival with monumental offerings, the interpretation of traditional legends, illuminated trajineras and even a catrinas contest. It is worth mentioning that this former hacienda is a magical place, full of history and mysticism. The perfect plan if you have a chance to get away (at least a little bit) from CDMX.
